Fork truck @ work advice in the UK ?
Don’t know if anyone on yahoo will be able to answer this, but anyway, found out yesterday that our Fork truck at work is not covered by our company liability insurance (our insurance company have decided to tell us this now after being with them for 5 years and them knowing full well we had a fork truck), anyway they have told us it should be listed and covered on our Fleet vehicle policy (insured by others), we contacted them and they said there is no problem with doing this but they asked me does the vehicle also need to be taxed ????!?!??!
Now I would assume an insurance company should know this, but obviously they don’t, the Fork truck operates in our factory and also goes into our car park to unload lorries (which basically anyone from the public could cross by rights), but with fork trucks having no license plate etc. why and how could it be taxed ?
Anyone know what the right way of doing things is, you advice would be much appreciated ?
well as long as the car park is company property , it’s PRIVATE property.. much is the drive on your house etc. although where I used to work, to unload the lorry they had to go onto the main road for a very brief time.
also people driving the trucks have to have a license, I had to take one for a leccy pallet truck, again for insurance.
sounds like your insurance company is trying to weasel out of providing cover, perhaps find a decent company who will.
since most fork lifts are on private property, they don’t have to be taxed.. or insured. but the drivers by law have to have a license or it voids any insurance if they don’t.
I’m sure if you speak to another company who knows what they are talking about they will tell you. Who ever your dealing with obviously doesn’t deal with many companies.
the uk is litegation mad, turning into a bunch of ambulance chasers like the states did.. common sense has left this country. it annoys me .
